Eddie Murphy is Hollywood's most overpaid actor

Comedian Eddie Murphy is overvalued and overpaid, says Forbes, which puts Murphy atop its annual Most Overpaid Actors in Hollywood list.

Eddie Murphy and Paige Butcher

Eddie Murphy was so hot in the '80s, it seemed everything he touched turned to gold. 48 Hours. Trading Places. Beverly Hills Cop. Um, Another 48 Hours. Okay, maybe not that last one.

Anyway, the '80s are over, and so, it seems, is Murphy: Forbes put him at first place in the 2012 iteration of its annual Most Overpaid Actors in Hollywood list.

Forbes notes that Murphy vehicles Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave all flopped at the box office. Last year's Tower Heist, which was advertised as a comeback in the same vein as 48 Hours, underperformed.

In fact, Forbes estimated that "for every $1 Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office."

Those odds aren't good. And neither is Murphy's career. These days, Murphy is better known for romantic hijinks like dumping a pregnant Scary Spice and denying he was the father of her baby .

Eddie Murphy still not dead — has a hot, new girlfriend>>

Who else showed up on the list? Number two is Katherine Heigl, who started demanding $12 million for her acting services after hits like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. However, her star fell from 2010 to 2012, with films like One for the Money and Life as We Know It barely making a dent.

Rounding out the rest of the top five are Reese Witherspoon, whose 2010's How Do You Know embarrassed despite big-name co-stars; Sandra Bullock, who failed with All About Steve and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close; and Jack Black, whose comedy The Big Year was a flop in 2011 despite co-stars Owen Wilson and Steve Martin.

A comedy about bird-watching failed? There's a shocker.

Some of the actors on the Most Overpaid list have been there for some time. Eddie Murphy was #2 last year, Reese Witherspoon was #4 and Nicholas Cage, #6 this year, also came in sixth last year. Others are new: Ben Stiller and Sarah Jessica Parker .

As for the five most bargain-priced actors, they are, in order: Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe and Shia LeBeouf. For every $1 Stewart gets, for instance, her films earn $55.83.

Channing Tatum and his sexiness are taking a break

Channing Tatum's ready for something new. After solidifying a spot on Hollywood's A-list, he's moving on to bigger and better things. His acting career is taking a backseat.

Channing Tatum

2012 has been good to Channing Tatum. It was the year the former dancer and model came into his own. The actor appeared in five films, including the surprise hit Magic Mike, which he also produced. After months of standing in the spotlight, Tatum's ready for a break.

According to EW, Tatum wants to become a force in front of and behind the camera. He and his producing partner Reid Carolin are ready to take their careers to the next level.

“[Reid and I] have about three to four ideas that we love that are all in the hopper. By the end of next year, we’re going to shut things down and write the first thing that we’re going to direct,” says Tatum.

“We’re going to be like, alright, no more acting parts for a minute, let’s take a few and really get caring about that section of our career,” he continues.

Don't be too sad; because of Tatum's tireless work ethic, he's got four films already scheduled for 2013. You literally won't notice he's gone.

Channing Tatum to cast his spell for a second stripper movie>>

Tatum's already proved that he can be a successful producer, but he wants to go further. “I love the steps that I’ve taken acting-wise. That has been a wild sort of exploration,” he says. “But I don’t want to just keep putting [directing] off for these fun and incredible opportunities.”

It's official: Channing Tatum is the Sexiest Man Alive>>

Can you imagine Channing Tatum the director? He's an accomplished actor, dancer, producer, and did we mention reigning Sexiest Man Alive? The world is his oyster.

Warm Bodies is an incredibly original take on the beloved zombie genre. It's the perfect balance of spooky and dark with a unique take on the redemptive qualities of love.

"R" is dead and trying to find his way within the lifeless world. Miraculously, he begins to heal when he crosses paths with Julie , an uninfected survivor who brings some life back into his cold heart. She knows he's dangerous, but any zombie that tries to protect her instead of eating her has her attention. As the two begin to grow closer and R learns to tame his less-than-glamorous animalistic nature, their relationship takes on a contagious streak amongst the zombie community, offering a possible fix to the outbreak.

Consider this a more comedic, action-packed, one-upper of the Twilight saga.

And now, here comes the fun part.

Warm Bodies isn't scheduled to hit theaters until Feb.1, but depending on where you live you've got a chance to see the film Dec. 12 or 13 at a number of advance screenings throughout the country!

Fiction meets TV: A Walking Dead mash-up

$

0
The Walking Dead is setting records with its high ratings for cable channel AMC. Whether you're a huge Walking Dead fan or want to see what all the zombie fuss is about, here are four books that are sure to satisfy your cravings.

The Passage cover

The Passage
Justin Cronin

Though The Passage has been labeled as a "vampire book", its creepy, single-minded villains have much more in common with the zombies of The Walking Dead than the gorgeous, vegetarian vampires of Twilight. It takes place in a future, after zombie/vampire hordes have overrun the United States, and there are only small groups of humans left. Survivors must work together in order to resist the hordes, and just when they think all hope is lost, they discover that a young girl named Amy may have the key to stopping the zombies.

Zone One cover

Zone One
Colson Whitehead

If you're a fan of more literary, high-brow novels but still can't resist the zombie allure, Zone One might be just the book for you. The plague is over, and in its aftermath are left two groups: the regular humans and the undead, the zombies that must be wiped out lest they bring destruction on us all. Mark Spitz works in lower Manhattan, cleaning out the zombies that are left in the area called "Zone One" that humans have managed to reclaim.

World War Z cover

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
Max Brooks

What you've heard about World War Z probably isn't good, most likely that it's a movie starring Brad Pitt that has been in production for years and is in some trouble. Apparently in its current form, the movie bears little resemblance to the book it takes its name from, which is a shame. World War Z is a rich, detailed novel, an account of the near-wiping out of humanity by those who experienced it firsthand. It's told as a history, a series of first person accounts by different people living in different parts of the world, all of whom converge to stop the zombies once and for all.

The Strain cover

The Strain
Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan

If Guillermo del Toro's name sounds familiar, it's probably because he's the acclaimed director of movies such as Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, and now he's brought his talents to the page. When a plane at New York's JFK's airport mysteriously comes to a stop in the middle of a runway, flight controllers are perplexed. The doors are sealed and the pilots aren't responding. When the doors finally open, they reveal that everyone on board is dead. Now, the Center for Disease Control must work to discover if it was a disease that killed these passengers, and if it was, to stop it from spreading to the general population.

If you're a Star Trek fan — or a Zachary Quinto or Chris Pine fan or a Benedict Cumberbatch fan — we challenge you to go the whole trailer without gasping, squeaking or biting your nails.

Star Trek's Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine

Geeky girls everywhere have waited a long, long time for the follow-up to 2009's Star Trek. For many of us, that's when we fell in love with Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. Now, the boys are back. There's a new guy to swoon over and even more action to keep us glued to YouTube for additional footage.

Can you remember the last time a trailer was this dramatic?

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser

no description available

The official IMDB.com page has this to say about the film:

"After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction."

Who is this "one-man weapon of mass destruction?" It's rumored that it's none other than Khan, an old enemy brought back from the first incarnations of the Star Trek series and movies. In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Captain Kirk and the USS Enterprise gang faces off against the genetically engineered Khan after he escapes his 15-year exile to take revenge on Kirk. The film ends with the death of Spock .

Star Trek's Benedict Cumberbatch

If this is a new movie featuring Khan, it's hard to tell if it will be a reimagining of the original stories involving Khan or something new. Either way, in the original version, Spock returns in the next movie. So, fear not, all you Zachary Quinto–loving ladies, if Spock dies... he'll return.

Aside from Quinto and Pine, the movie will also star the very British Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch also plays the title character of BBC's Sherlock. Sherlock premiered roughly two years before America developed Elementary and, other than Sherlock's characteristic offensive genius, the shows are quite different. If you haven't spent much time with Cumberbatch before, Sherlock is an excellent way to do so.

Star Trek Into Darkness will be more than just cute boys, though. With a whopping estimated budget of $185 million, the movie ought to be rife with action and special effects. J.J. Abrams may not be as 3-D obsessed as James Cameron, but this movie should be absolutely breathtaking, even in 2-D.

But don't get too excited yet! We still have six months until the proposed May 2013 release date.

Car talk with The Guilt Trip's Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen

Barbra Streisand is known for her amazing singing voice and long film career, but it's been a while since she's acted in a comedy. Find out what she told SheKnows about working with funny guy Seth Rogen, smoking pot and taking long drives with famous actors.

the_guilt_trip_car

In the film, Streisand and Rogen play a mother and son who go on a road trip from New York to San Francisco — but Streisand isn’t quite like Rogen’s real mom.

“My mom is more like [the] Barbra Streisand character in Meet the Fockers," said Rogen. "She’s more of a hippie. She's a social worker who talks about sex too much. She’ll, like, post on her Facebook about pap smears."

But Rogen does remember getting into a fight with his real mother.

“When I was 12, my mom spazzed and threw her keys at me, and I was like, whoa. We were in a car and I was close to her. Keys hurt, but words hurt more,” Rogen said as he laughed.

But Seth and Babs did enjoy hanging out together on set, which was never more than 45 minutes away from Streisand’s Malibu home.

“She tells really great stories!” said Rogen, then mentioned the one where Streisand went on a road trip with Marlon Brando.

“He [Brando] wanted to go the desert to see the wildflowers. Well, he wanted to stay overnight, but I told him I didn’t know him well enough,” said Streisand. “It was funny. It was a daytime trip and we went into a little hamburger joint with a creaky screen door and I was sitting there eating hamburgers, thinking, This is Marlon Brando!” she said before suggesting she might write more about it in a book someday.

Another one of Rogen’s favorite Babs stories is when she smoked pot with the actor Peter Sellers.

“I was married to Elliot and he [Sellers] was with Brit Ekland,” Streisand recalled before saying they had what seemed like a hilarious conversation about mixing up food, like eating “steak ice cream.”

Speaking of steak, Streisand’s character in The Guilt Trip eats a giant 50-ounce steak. She admitted she tried to get the director to cut the scene, but since the film is based on a true story and the writer’s mother really did eat a 50-ounce steak, she decided to do it.

“I ate that steak for three days, for my art,” she said, and confessed, “I don’t love steak, I’m afraid I’m going to choke on it. I love the first bite, and then it’s disgusting to me. At times we had to substitute watermelon — burn the watermelon and make it look like steak.” Ew.

Streisand said Rogen was funny on and off the screen, citing the fact that he started doing stand-up comedy when he was only 13.

Tyler Perry's Temptation explores nature of desire

Tyler Perry sets his efforts on a twisted, provocative plot delving into the consequences of sex, sin and obsession. Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams and more move this red-hot film, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.

Lust and guilt have spawned infidelity in numerous relationships these days.

The consequences are many, rippling far beyond the affair. Director Tyler Perry intends to examine these pains and bring light to the immense costs of love crimes.

Featuring a steamy cast, with the likes of Jurnee Smollett, Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams and more, Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, coming out March 29, is cast amidst the devil's playground. Seduction and restless relationships break boundaries at the mercy of a taste of the forbidden.

Though little has surfaced about the whole plot, Perry has stated that Temptation is, "one of the most provocative movies I've ever made."

As the title eludes, we can only presume a breach in professional practice that leads a marriage counselor into a slippery slope of affairs, guilt and secrecy. Too often Hollywood downplays the effects of infidelity. We applaud Perry and his ambitions to bring a conscious perspective on the pandemic with such big names that will surely grab audience attention.

Temptation hits theaters this March.

In Our Nature movie review: Like father, like son

$
0
0
Mad Men’s sexy, silver-fox John Slattery stars in this indie drama about a father’s bitter nature and his son’s desire to break free from the dysfunction. Well cast, the actors give solid, nuanced performances.

In Our Nature

2.5 stars: Perfect for those who want a break from their own family problems

Twenty-somethings Seth and Andie escape the city for a weekend at Zach’s family cabin. Once there and making love, the young couple are surprised by Zach’s emotionally distant father Gil and his much younger new girlfriend, Vicky .

As father and son grunt at each other, it’s the women who try to make peace and finally persuade both of them to stay at the cabin and enjoy the weekend as a family.

Gil is charmed by Andie as she gets Gil to loosen up by smoking some pot. Together, they observe the trees and general beauty of the woods in upstate New York. Gil begins to see his son through vegan Andie’s eyes — a sensitive man, a good cook, and a penchant to hide from confrontation — just like Gil.

Feeling more like a piece of theater than a movie, this small ensemble cast shines as they are allowed the time and space to explore their relationships with each other, keeping every moment real.

In Our Nature

The bear that stumbles into the kitchen provides a break in the family tension and perhaps serves as a metaphor for life: Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, something totally unexpected occurs — like when one of the women reveals her unexpected pregnancy.

Eventually, father and son hash out years of resentment and frustration that give way to a narrow road of intimacy. Slattery is the master of tense bitterness, as proven on his show Mad Men, but it’s nice to see him express some softer, deeper feelings.

In our Nature

Union and Malone give gentle, subtle performances and remind us how important a woman’s sensitivity is in the family dynamic, given how stubborn many men can be.

Bottom line: This is a very realistic, slow-moving family drama with great acting that heralds women as the glue that keeps the family strong.

Playing for Keeps movie review: Bend it like Butler

$

Down-on-his-luck soccer star Gerard Butler returns home to spend time with his son. But learning to be a dad isn’t as easy as scoring a goal, especially when every lady in town is chasing after him. Butler's so sexy — who can blame them?

Playing for Keeps

4 stars: Perfect for soccer moms, married and single

George lived a life of glory as a Scottish soccer star in the 1990s. He had it all: Fame, fortune, a loving wife and son. Now, it’s 2012 and it’s all gone. Some bad investments in a bad economy did him in financially and a playboy lifestyle did in his marriage to sweet Stacie , who’s always been the responsible one. But George wants his family back.

Now in Virginia, ex-wife Stacie has moved on romantically and is now engaged to marry nice guy Matt . Discovering that Stacie has found someone else proves a real psychological blow to George.

To prove he can be a good dad, George agrees to coach his son Lewis’ soccer team. Not only does he become a hero to the kids on the team, the soccer moms chase George around town like cats in heat — single and married moms are both desperate to score.

playing for keeps

When it comes to being a hero to his own son, however, Lewis shows his dad a red card. All the athleticism in the world can’t make George a better father. For that, he’ll need an assist from Stacie. She’s kind, patient and knowledgeable, and it’s killing George that he messed up the whole thing.

Like many men, George can’t appreciate what he has until it’s gone. With nothing left to lose, he decides it's time to grow up and fight for his family, but his many rendezvous with the local ladies are getting in the way.

Playing for Keeps

As George, Butler is hunky, lovable, and gives a very heartfelt portrayal of a man who sincerely wants to change his life.

In what may be the most honest performance of her career, Biel shines as a mom who is struggling to give her son the best life possible.

Dennis Quaid and Uma Thurman play a distinctly unhappily married couple and stir up big problems for George, while Catherine Zeta-Jones dazzles with classy sex appeal.

Bottom line: Playing for Keeps makes love and family the grandest prize of all. If you haven’t yet fallen for Gerard Butler, this movie will make you a convert by the 20-minute mark, so move over David Beckham, there’s a new soccer star in town.

Hyde Park on Hudson movie review: War and hot dogs

$

In June of 1939, England was on the cusp of war with Germany and needed America’s help. The king and queen came to New York to spend the weekend with then-President Franklin Roosevelt with the purpose of asking for help. Full of humor and wit, Bill Murray and Laura Linney are enchanting as they interact as a U.S. president and his mistress.

Hyde Park

5 Stars:  Perfect for fans of the film The King’s Speech

In the days before everyone had a television, before sound bites ruled and image was king, America valued different qualities in their politicians. Our 32nd President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt , was crippled from polio and used a wheelchair to get around. It’s difficult to imagine America voting for someone like him today.

But Franklin was a master politician and England knew it needed his help. There was a very real chance England might fall to Germany and they were desperate to partner with American troops.

King George VII and Queen Elizabeth journey to spend a weekend with Franklin. You may remember this royal couple from the film The King’s Speech. King George had a dreadful stutter and suffered from insecurity.

Hyde Park

The movie is told through the eyes of Daisy , a distant cousin of Franklin’s and one of his mistresses. Their relationship is calm and peaceful and she falls deeply for him. She is witness to all the madness as this was the first time a sitting king or queen from England had ever visited the United States. Sounds silly now, but back then, they still harbored bitter feelings over the American Revolution.

Besides diplomatic talks, one of the activities planned is a picnic where the king and queen will be served hot dogs. Yes, frankfurters in buns. The queen thinks it's some sort of setup to embarrass them and firmly believes they should not be eaten. It’s hilarious how something so small can make a political statement.

Hyde Park

Bill Murray is delightful as the complicated president. His charm and intelligence make you love him despite his philandering. Laura Linney plays Daisy as a simple woman who invests everything in this man, even when she shouldn’t.

Bottom line: Hyde Park on Hudson has very little politics but lots of great tension between the royals and the Yanks, providing many laughs, not to mention a love story. Enjoy!

With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR's domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one. Seen through the eyes of Daisy , Franklin's neighbor and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy -- and through her, for us all -- a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.

Deadfall movie review: Thanksgiving dinner from hell

$
0
0
Mega-hotties Eric Bana and Charlie Hunnam star in this creepy, violent tale of greed that culminates in the worst turkey dinner every recorded on film. If you thought the holidays with your family were rough, this movie might have you thinking Christmas dinner with your in-laws won’t be all that bad.

Deadfall

3 stars: Perfect for fans of Charlie Hunnam and Eric Bana

Siblings from the Deep South, Addison and Liza think they’ve pulled off a clever casino heist until they wreck their getaway car in a white-out snow storm in northern Michigan.

After Addison shoots and kills the responding police officer, brother and sister decide to split up, each taking a bag stuffed with half the cash they stole.

It seems a bad idea for little Liza to be traipsing through the snow in her sequined dress, but lusty brother Addison tells her to wait by the side of the road for some local to pick her up and instructs her to use her “feminine wiles."

The lingering eye contact between brother and sister imply some kind of incestuous connection, either emotionally or physically. Creepy, but if sexy Eric Bana was my brother, let’s just say I’d at least consider it.

deadfall

Meanwhile, Jay Mills , an ex-Olympic boxer is released from prison. He was serving time for fighting in a rigged boxing match in which he was paid to get knocked out. He’s headed home to reunite with his doting mother June Mills and begrudging father Chet Mills . On his way, he happens to see Liza shivering by the side of the road. He rescues her from the elements and is thoroughly bewitched by her beauty and Southern charm.

One of the best scenes in the film is when Addison, who’s battling the blizzard on foot, comes across a Native American repairing his snowmobile. Addison attacks, but the man has plenty of fight in him and manages to slice off Addison’s finger. Addison eventually makes off with the snowmobile, but the vehicle poops out and he’s again relegated to walking through the ice and slush.

Deadfall

With a tip from Liza via her cellphone, Addison eventually makes his way to the Mills' home, where he’s met by Jay, Liza and Hanna , a young local cop who’s desperate to prove her worthiness. This homecoming is orchestrated danger, conducted by sadistic Addison who isn’t too happy to discover Jay is sweet on his baby sis.

Handcuffs, a carving knife stabbed through Jay’s hand, and homemade pumpkin pie are the new holiday tradition at the Mills' home, resulting in serious consequences and perhaps a slice of redemption.

Deadfall

Charlie Hunnam shows his softer emotional side, setting him up as Hollywood’s next romantic leading man. Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson delight as the salt of the earth married couple, who value family above all. Olivia Wilde is perhaps too beautiful and put together for having been caught in a car wreck in the middle of a blizzard, but Eric Bana warms up the screen with dark charm and a stellar Southern accent.

Bottom line:  This movie has fantastic acting while exploring family dynamics that are both troubled and familiar, but the competing story lines often feel forced and a tad too convenient. Between staring at Charlie and Eric however, you may not even notice the story flaws.

The Hobbit gives Martin Freeman serious geek cred

The Hobbit is taking the world by storm. It's an all-new adventure with a familiar character played by a different actor. Martin Freeman replaces Ian Holm as the lovable Bilbo.

Martin Freeman

One of the year's biggest films is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It's the first of three based on the popular J.R.R. Tolkien book. Directed by Peter Jackson , The Hobbit focuses on a younger, less experienced Bilbo Baggins.

The character's played by British actor Martin Freeman. Although he's steadily worked in his native country for years, The Hobbit is taking his career to a whole new level. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeman considers himself "geek royalty now."

It's official! Hobbit fans in for a third film>>

The actor's well aware of the fandom surrounding the franchise. His character's very popular, and the film's exposing him to a new audience. Freeman really wants to keep his new title. "That’s the main responsibility," he joked. "It’s not playing Bilbo, it’s my responsibility as a geek prince."

The Hobbit releases a new trailer for An Unexpected Journey>>

Even though he's at the center of Hobbitmania, he admits he didn't grow up reading it.

"I came to it as an adult for this. It was nice coming to it that way around, actually. In a way, it decreased the pressure. I think if I had been carrying that around since I was 10, that would have been quite overwhelming by the time I grew up. My being here would be overwhelming. As it was, it was more exciting than scary."

To be fair, The Hobbit isn't Freeman's first foray into the geek world. The actor currently plays Watson on the BBC series Sherlock opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. The drama has a huge geek following, and The Hobbit's just adding fuel to the fire.

The film opens in theaters Dec. 14.

Johnny Depp to go mad for Alice in Wonderland?

Disney's not done with Alice in Wonderland. The blockbuster fantasy has scored a sequel. Its screenwriter has been confirmed, but the cast and director are up in the air.

Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland

Disney is moving forward with a sequel to 2010's Alice in Wonderland. We're not surprised they want to take another trip down the rabbit hole. The first film grossed over $1 billion worldwide. It was one of the most successful movies of that year.

Alice in Wonderland was directed by Tim Burton and written by Linda Woolverton, who adapted Lewis Carroll's famous books. According to Variety, Woolverton's been tapped to work her magic on a second installment. This will be the latest in a long line of family films she's helped make at Disney.

Woolverton's resume reads like a childhood dream. She's had a hand in some of the most successful and memorable films of all time. She worked on Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin and the upcoming Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.

First photo: Angelina Jolie gets horny as Maleficent>>

Original Alice in Wonderland producers Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd are all set to return. Now, what about the actors? There's been no mention of Johnny Depp or his infectious alter ego, The Mad Hatter. There's also the question of Burton. Would he be willing to direct the follow-up?

Johnny Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean 5?>>

With tentpoles, studios usually ask the talent to sign multi-picture deals. And we all know Depp has no problem with franchises. Pirates of the Caribbean anyone? The water-logged adventure, which is also produced by Disney, has four films under its belt.

So what do you say Johnny? Are you ready to revisit Wonderland?

Our interview with Ted: Some scary dating advice

In light of the upcoming Ted release, we caught up with the fuzzy dude himself to get the inside scoop on what men want when it comes to dating. He's a teddy bear with a larger-than-life personality and his answers are anything but boring.

Ted on couch with girls

When Universal approached us with a unique opportunity to interview their lead character, Ted, in light of his upcoming DVD release, we couldn't pass it up. Since many of you already saw the hilarious movie in theaters, however, we decided to ask Ted some questions of a different nature that we knew only he would have the guts to answer honestly.

So here it goes, our candid interview with Ted on the world of dating.

SheKnows: How can a woman ruin a first date?

Ted: Wow. Let me count the ways… Not talking enough, not listening enough, not offering to pick up the check, not taking you home, not allowing repeated attempts to grope, fondle or otherwise express physical interest. And the worst way to ruin a date has got to be ending with the “let’s just be friends” line. Look, I don’t need another friend, I already have John , and Sam “Flash Gordon” Jones. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve ruined my fair share of dates, but I usually own it.

SK: How soon is too soon to sleep with him?

Ted: There is no such thing as too soon. I’ve found that phone sex before the first date really helps break the ice... so the first date is fine. Skip dessert, I say, and go mess up the sheets.

"I’ve found that phone sex before the first date really helps break the ice."

SK: Is there such a thing as too much makeup?

Ted: Well, I think all women are beautiful, and that makeup should be used sparingly, to enhance a girl’s beauty. I mean, if all goes according to plan, all that makeup is gonna come off anyway. That being said, if you’re scary ugly like Abraham Lincoln, then go for broke. Pick a dark restaurant and sit in the corner booth, preferably near an emergency exit.

Mila Kunis at Ted premiere

SK: Why do guys love Mila?

Ted: Because she’s real. She really is that person. She comes across as someone who doesn’t really care if she’s pretty even though she actually is drop-dead gorgeous. I speak from experience, having worked with her, and having looked up her towel, which was awesome. I think she treats everybody the same. Looks don’t matter to her — it’s what’s inside that counts. Traits like these are essential for a three-foot-tall teddy bear. If I ever get married, it will be to her. Or someone like her. But preferably her.

SK: Cleavage: yes or no on the first go?

Ted: Yes, but if you’re rockin’ your two big bad boys like a porn star, then don’t get all uppity about your guy not making eye contact. I speak from experience, because I’m pretty much at boob level to you. If we don’t see eye to eye, just know that I usually see eye to nipple.

"She comes across as someone who doesn’t really care if she’s pretty even though she actually is drop-dead gorgeous."

SK: Can a girl ask a guy out?

Ted: Yes. Are you asking me out? Because the answer is yes. And I feel like we already know each other. And you look so sexy with that laptop in your lap. How would you like a bear in your lap?

SK: How do you feel about age gaps?

Ted: Age is just a number. If you’re smokin’ hot and ready to rumble, I don’t care what decade you were born in… as long as we’re talking legally of age. Megan Fox, Ashley Judd, Dame Judi Dench… you’re all beautiful to me.

SK: Never say ______ on a date.

Ted: Here’s a bullet list:

  • I don’t like sex.
  • I don’t like oral sex.
  • I have a boyfriend.
  • I’m married.
  • I hated Flash Gordon.

Ted in tub

SK: Yea or nay to playing with the phone on a date?

Ted: Well, if you pay more attention to playing Words with Friends than to me, I’m not going to feel very confident in the evening’s outcome. If you are literally playing with the phone like it’s a sex toy, well, then we have a lot to talk about.

SK: Ultimate brownie points on a date?

Ted: Go commando. Easy access, ladies. Trust me. Everything is so much easier.

Get the DVD

Ted hits stores Dec. 11, so be sure to check out this fuzzy little dude in all his glory. Seth MacFarlane raised the bar on the raunch-o-meter of this flick but honestly, it makes it one of the more memorable comedic experiences of the past year.

If you're looking to give the gift of laughs this holiday season, Ted's your go-to guy, hands down!

Gerard Butler may have been playing for keeps this weekend, but the box office numbers are showing Bond isn't playing around. Reclaiming the top seat this week, Skyfall proves it's not done just yet.

Top 10

Find out what topped the charts this weekend!

1

Skyfall

Skyfall won't stop now. It's going to take more than five weeks to break Daniel Craig and the latest Bond endeavor. But what more would you expect from the highly skilled secret agent? Skyfall fought back to the top this weekend, scoring $11 million at the box office.

2

Rise of the Guardians

Rise of the Guardians climbed up a spot to our No. 2, with $10.5 million, kicking the vampires down a spot to No. 3. Rise of the Guardians is great for the holiday season, featuring the animated world of Santa Claus and a whole array of magical characters the kids are sure to love!

3

Breaking Dawn — Part 2

The vampires seem to be losing traction with the coming holiday season, dropping down a spot since last week. Breaking DawnPart 2, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, managed $9.2 million to round out the weekend.

4

Lincoln

Staying put at No. 4 was the dramatic biopic, Lincoln, featuring Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. The film maxed out at $9.1 million, bringing its cumulative five-week total to $97 million. Perhaps we should consider putting Abe's face on a bigger bill!

5

The Life of Pi

The Life of Pi, inspired by the Yann Martel novel, maintained its No. 5 spot from last week, coming in with $8.3 million. If you enjoy a good spiritual adventure, you'll love this. The film chronicles a hearty survival journey and the birth of the most unlikely of friendships.

6

Playing For Keeps

Gerard Butler and Playing For Keeps were looking to score some major points in their debut weekend, but the numbers didn't quite add up. Coming in at No. 6 with $6 million, Playing For Keeps stars a family-oriented Butler on a mission to win back the love of his son and maybe even his former wife through his skills with a soccer ball.

7

Wreck-It Ralph

Disney and Pixar's Wreck It-Ralph fell down a seat to No. 7 this weekend, earning some $4.9 million. Wreck-It Ralph is a funny family flick cast in a video game world and featuring the voice of John C. Reilly.

8

Red Dawn

Red Dawn stayed right at No. 8 — again. The revamped plot from the cult classic features an all-new cast that includes Chris Hemsworth. The film has only managed some $37 million in its first three weeks, proving that maybe Hemsworth should just stick to his adventures as Thor.

9

Flight

Flight held its own near the top for quite a while, but it couldn't soar past No. 9 for the second week in a row.

10

Killing Them Softly

Killing Them Softly was the real dud of the weekend, featuring Brad Pitt as a violent Mafia fixer on a mission to track down valuable assets and the goons that thought they could get away with a makeshift heist. I know they say you can't judge a book by its cover, but the preview for this flick seemed to show a bit more promise than a $2.7 million weekend.

Kristen Stewart confirms new role against Ben Affleck

You read that right: Kristen Stewart is set to star in a comedy.

Kristen Stewart to appear in comedy alongside Ben Affleck

Now that her time spent as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga is officially over, Kristen Stewart's datebook is wide open. Or at least it is until April, when she begins filming her newest movie, Focus. She'll co-star with Ben Affleck.

Stewart confirmed the news to The Huffington Post.

"I can confirm that rumor," she said, speaking of the recent rumors about her next role. "It's a comedy. I'm really excited about it. We start shooting in April."

"Focus" is a comedy about a young con artist who begins working with a more experienced person in her trait . The movie is written and will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The two also worked together on Crazy, Stupid, Love, starring Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.

While it hasn't been yet confirmed, some reports claim the movie will require Stewart and Affleck to engage in some sexy moments together. While that will be interesting, it could also be super awkward — Kristen is 22 and Affleck is 40.

This won't be Stewart's first comedy, but it will be her first in a relatively long time. Aside from spending the past few years serving as Bella Swan in the romantic and very dramatic Twilight Saga, Stewart has wracked up a few lighter films, too.

She also starred in Adventureland, alongside Jesse Eisenberg, and 2010's The Runaways, in which she played Joan Jett. She also played Snow White in the gothed-out version of the fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. Of course, Stewart also got her start as a little girl in the terrifyingly good Panic Room.

It's been quite a while since Kristen Stewart was paid to smile. We're interested to see if hell will freeze over in April, and just how painful she'll make smiling look.

Gerard Butler's Playing for Keeps misses goal

Gerard Butler vehicle Playing for Keeps failed to connect with audiences, earning a miserable $2,115 per theater average. Do Americans hate soccer movies? Or is Butler's career in need of some CPR?

Gerard Butler at the Playing for Keeps premiere

Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel's soccer rom-com Playing for Keeps debuted in sixth place at the box office this weekend, behind weeks-old releases such as Skyfall, Rise of the Guardians, and Breaking Dawn — Part 2.

It's the fourth misfire for Butler, whose last wide release, surf movie Chasing Mavericks, earned an anemic $5.8 million during the entire run of the film. The 2011 Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus pulled in $757,195 and Machine Gun Preacher a mere $538,690.

Yikes! What hath become of the shirtless, grimacing "It guy" of 2007, whose King Leonidas in 300 thrilled the ladies and the gents alike? Butler isn't even in sequel 300: Rise of an Empire, set to bow in 2013.

Gerard Butler calls Jessica Biel "the one that got away">>

It could be argued that the studio didn't have high hopes for Playing for Keeps, given that it handed the movie one of the ugliest, Photoshop wrecks of a poster imaginable:

Playing for Keeps poster

Elegant Catherine Zeta-Jones is almost unrecognizable, that is the least flattering image of gorgeous Uma Thurman one can imagine, and Butler's look could be most charitably termed "fuzzy."

Also, this poster strongly resembles that of several other so-so romantic comedies. To wit:

Love Actually poster

Valentine's Day poster

Critics savagedPlaying for Keeps, most notably Richard Roeper who summed up the film thusly: "Smarmy. Dopey. Sloppy. Lazy. Creepy. Tone-deaf. Predictable. Embarrassing. Lousy." Rotten Tomatoes' consensus was "Witless, unfocused and arguably misogynistic" and a "lowest-common-denominator Hollywood rom-com."

Seattle Times critic Moira Macdonald had kinder words… for Butler's hair: "Absurdly thick and manfully curly" that's subtly highlighted "as if from a finger from heaven." It's the man-hair equivalent even of "Hugh Grant in his floppy-bangs period; a great era for male movie hair."

The movie itself? Not so good, says Macdonald. But the hair, it's a movie star. Oh, and Butler does appear shirtless in the movie. At least it's something.
