Jessica Lange's character, Arvilla Holden has promised to scatter her husband's ashes in a specific locale, but she never expected that wish to be fulfilled so soon. Instead of following his wishes, she takes off from their Idaho home to Santa Barbara on an adventure with her two best friends, the fun loving Margene (Kathy Bates) and the too-good for her own good, Carol (Joan Allen).
Jumping in their '66 Pontiac Bonneville, the trio head out on the road and discover more about themselves and each other than decades of friendship ever provided.
