Fletcher adds Hot Pursuit to her long list of Hollywood achievements, which include directing Step Up, The Proposal, The Guilt Trip and 27 Dresses, and 18 acting credits and 51 choreography jobs on major films. It's an impressive résumé for anyone in the industry, male or female, and Fletcher says she accomplished so much by ignoring sexism.
"I always encourage. I got to speak to girls in schools that want to be a director or a producer or a writer, and I'm like, 'Get in there! Get in there now and don't let anything stop you,'" Fletcher told SheKnows. "Don't let hearing it's a man's world or there's sexism [stop you], because that just makes you a victim and it stops you. It doesn't perpetuate your life. Don't claim anything other than your own victory and your own success as a woman."

Fletcher has certainly forged her path by brushing off inequality, but that doesn't mean she is denying the fact that sexism is very prevalent. "It makes me say, 'Let's work harder,'" she said of the alarming statistic stating that 93 percent of the recent most popular movies have been directed by men, as reported by US News. "I know for a fact that more women are coming into the forefront, and there [are] a lot more directors that are coming up and a lot of female-driven comedies that are heading our way this year, so I know that it's changing. Can it change more? Absolutely."

And how does Fletcher think we can help facilitate this female empowerment movement? By encouraging our young girls, of course.

"It's a societal thing that men are smarter than women, that men know more than women," she said. "And so, I think the more we work on our younger girls and get them to say, 'No, no, no, it's not necessarily true,' and start shifting the consciousness for the generations before us, the shift will happen and change. After a while, you just go, 'Wait a second, I have a point of view and I might not always be right, but that's OK. I have a point of view and I'm going to speak my mind.'"
