In fact, the immense popularity of this film is reportedly causing a frenzy in movie theaters, who according to Variety are desperately trying to add extra showtimes to keep up with the demand.

Variety reports that Fifty Shades is having the biggest first week of ticket sales on Fandango for a non-sequel film since 2012's Hunger Games. The film's online ticket sales have already surpassed other R-rated films like Gone Girl, the second and third installment of The Hangover films and Sex and the City 2.
But if that was not enough to impress you, CinemaBlend reports that Fandango's chief correspondent, Dave Karger, has declared that Fifty Shades of Grey could be Fandango's fastest-selling R-rated movie of all time.
