"Divine timing" is correct, Oprah. The media mogul, who stars in the film and whose company, Harpo Productions, produced it, could not have been more accurate in her assessment that Selma couldn't have been released at a more relevant time. With the protests taking place around the U.S. focusing on the deaths of Eric Garner in New York City and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, Selma is poised to resonate with many Americans who feel disillusioned about the current situation and are eager to make a difference.
Robin Roberts, Magic Johnson and Tyler Perry echoed what many of the peaceful protestors are advocating: that people across the country, both white and African-American, need to come together to effect real change. The movie will, no doubt, shine an even greater spotlight on the issues still faced in the U.S. and we're looking forward to seeing the film and taking away its inspiring message.
